Chiang Dao Homestay and Nature Trails

Chiang Dao National Park covers an area of some eleven hundred square kilometres, close to the border  with neighbouring Myanmar. The park contains Chiang Dao Forest, the Mae Fang Watershed, and the districts of Wiang Haeng and Chaiprakan. With walks varying from a gentle stroll to a hardcore hike the area around Chiang Dao has something for every enthusiastic nature lover. Treks can last for anything from a couple of hours up to a couple of days with homestay accommodations.

Most guesthouses can arrange motorcycles for rent for around 200-300 baht/day. This is is one of the cheapest options as there are very few taxis in the town and they employ a price fixing strategy, be prepared to pay 150 baht per ride from one of these regardless of how much you barter. Taxis usually stay in town close to the 7-11, better to negotiate with taxi drivers directly, instead of asking the guest houses as they mark their prices sometime quite dramatically. Places, such as Mon and Kurt’s Restaurant and Guesthouse, also rent reliable Bicycles and Mountain Bikes(100 Baht per day/24 hours).

TIP: If you are just traveling on the main Highway 107, the Songtheaws that just travel on the main highway, are only 10 Baht within the Chiang Dao Area and all the way to the MuangNgai turnoff, North of town.

Each elephant has his or her own mahout to care for on a one-on-one basis. Elephants are only worked during the mornings, with their afternoons and nights free to roam the surrounding natural forest. With such a vast area filled with hills and the Ping River, elephants can wander through the forests as well as take baths in the river. Marisa Resort & Spa

This resort has so much potential to be so much more… Apart from not being put in the room I had confirmed, re-confirmed and confirmed again it was obvious that the room we were put in had not been used in an extremely long time as everything down to the doona and pillow had the overwhelming smell of mould. Mould was also clearly visable on the woven grass walls and ceiling. The resort grounds themselves were really quite charming and it is such a shame the accommodations let down what could be a beautiful place to stay. However on this occassion we chose to checkout early after our first night and move to a more reputable resort. We would be reluctant to recommend this accommodation or to stay here again in the future.
