Established as recently as November 2004, Klong Lat Mayom Floating Market has rapidly become very popular in Bangkok City. If you like street hopping for handcrafts and handmade gifts, then this is the place for you. Products are open for visitors to buy along the two sides of the canal. There is also a plantation program where tourists can learn about water soaking fertilizer production. Hidden among the Arts and Crafts stores is a “miniature maritime museum” where you see model boats and get an idea of the Thai cultural river life.

Alongside the river, you can row a boat to see gardens; the service charge fee is only THB 10 but a charter service with a fixed route is approximately THB 300-400.

Best time

All year round. Opening hours: Weekends and public holidays from 09.30AM – 04.00PM.

Getting there

Take No. 146 to Kanchanaphisek Road until the offices of Samakom Chao Pak Tai (Association of People from the South). Then take a 15-minute song thaeo (Rod Fai – Wat Pu Theun route) to Bang Ramat Road.

The best way to get there is to take the BTS to Wongwian Yai station, then flag down a taxi and ask him to take you to ‘Talat Nam Khlong Lat Mayom’. It can actually be quite tough trying to find a taxi driver who will actually recognise the name so you should be prepared to go through a few taxis.
