Khao Kra Jome Ratchaburi

To the heart of the traveler like me, the road will never end. There will always be a way for me to seek the opportunity to explore more, lighting up the inspiration of lifetime knowledge. For me, this new destination is the top of the mountain called “Khao Kra Jome” Suan Phueng district, Ratchaburi province.

I left Bangkok early in the morning and reached Suan Phueng district in the afternoon. The van I traveled in parked at the “Usavadee” field for us to freshen up before we reach our destination “Khao Kra Jome“. And since there is limited space up there at “Khao Kra Jome“, we all needed to take shower and change before we did not. have a chance. After we all changed, we moved to a four-wheel drive because other kinds of vehicle could not possibly drive up to the peak of the mountain with non-asphalt road. Some part of the road is filled with water scouring over the road from the rain and full of rocks. Only some part of the road are paved, therefore, making this place one of the best place to practice an off road adventure.

A green jeep with a giant wheel rolled down towards the peak of the mountain, having sign said 7 kilometers to the top of “Khao Kra Jome“. As we ride along the sideways with wind and dust upon our faces, we saw a lot of trees and realized that this place is still enrich by the nature. “Khao Kra Jome” is 1,000 meter above the water level. II is the base of the frontier policemen, the border of Western Thai Myanmar area. We reached the top of the mountain almost evening. The weather was quite nice with perfect scenery of mist, therefore, a lot of tourists like to stay and camp up here. I would like to point out one thing that if you have a chance to come up here and bring food with you, do bring the trashes down with you in order to maintain the status of this nature and the environment.

The sun was about to set, I was having rice which was cooked in the bamboo flask, enjoying the romantic night scene with all the stars in a clear sky. It was slightly chilling when I sat under the stars in moonlight, so I had to set up a bonfire and late at night we drove along the moon path to watch different kinds of animals came to fetch a food. We did not track any animal so we had to go back to the camping area until we heard cicadas noise, so we went up to the top of the mountain again and sat down under the bonfire and looked up the clear sky and relaxed with the unpolluted nature.

Wind was blowing all night, kept me awake, and wondered if our tent will blew in the air. Luckily, the tents were fine and in the morning, there were mist and the sun was about to rise. After a while, we heard the engine starts, it was green jeep given the sign that we had to leave Khao Kra Jome.

Along the path on the way back, there are a lot of things we discovered in this nature: the rare banana trees, waterfalls called “PhaDeang”, which was 200 meters from the top of Khao Kra Jome. We went to the waterfall and rested there for a while, and then we spotted a lot of beautiful banana trees at Orchid Bee Garden, which imported orchid to oversea. It was a free entrance.

The sun was about to set, and we all know the trip was about to finish. At Khao Kra Jome ,While I was sitting in the van to go back, I glanced on the sideways together with the sunset view on the far glance, till I slept and next thing I knew, we reached Bangkok.

About elephant riding , Every times I went to the zoo when I was young, I always stop by to see the elephant because they are big and powerful.

When I watched the elephant show, those trained elephants were so cute and adorable that I almost forgot about their wild instinct.

Recently. in December. I went to Mae Wang. Elephant, Elephant riding in Mae Wang.

Elephant riding ,Camp in Chiang Mai, located on Sanpatong-Maewin Rd.(26 KM) The road is connected to Khun Wang Mae Jon Luang. You can either go to Inthanon and back to the city or stop by at Mae Jam on this way. I chose to go to Sob Win, a 100 yrs old village in the hills. Natures are still valued for its fertility. Mae Wang River is the main stream from Doi Inthanon. Pa ker yaw, Hmong and Thais all live there in unity. For those who want to learn the about the hill tribes and to ride the elephant can overnight at the home stay. First I wondered how elephant riding at Mae Wang is different from other tourist spots, but after I had my own experience, I can’t stop talking to myself that this is really wonderful.

Elephant riding in Thailand

Elephant riding in Mae Wang is unique because the forest here is genuinely productive. The elephant took me to the narrow path where I can be so closed to the fine nature. I saw many kinds of plant. I tried to take pictures as I usually do, but it was too difficult for me since I was on an elephant!

I stopped taking pictures and made the impressions of nature instead. The mahout told me that the elephant riding tour has an important part in changing the villager’s life. The family income was increased after and elephant are happier when they no longer work hard. When elephants walk in the trail, they can stop and eat some fruits from the tree. I had fun looking at them while they ate. If you are not afraid of the elephant, I’d suggest you to try sitting on their neck. You can control them by using your leg to make it turn left and right. For me, it is more comfortable than sitting on the back.Elephant riding in Mae Wang

Elephant riding This is my first time getting so close to the elephant. With all ties to surroundings, the mahout and the elephant can easily take us to touch the heart of nature. This elephant riding experience is really worth to remain in my memory. If anyone gets a chance to visit Chiang Mai, please don’t forget to try the elephant riding at Mae Wang on your next trip, and you will feel the happiness of the wild animal.enjoy elephant riding in Mae Wang.

Second largest in Thailand the site covers an area of 6,155 square kilometers, including evergreen forests and grasslands 400-1000 m above sea level. It is home to 2500 species of fauna 16 of which world exclusive; 392 birds like red jungle fowl and green peafowl; 112 mammals including Asiatic black bears, Asian elephants, gaurs, tigers, gibbons, Indian sambar deer, crab-eating macaque, Indian muntjac, dholes, and wild pigs. Its waterfalls include the 80 m Heo Narok and Heo Suwat made famous from the film The Beach. The area contains substantial and important tropical forest ecosystems, which can provide a viable habitat for the long-term survival of these species.

Khao Yai along the Sankambeng Mountain Range or Phanom Dong Rak was a deep jungle infested with wild animals and malaria fever, causing only death to passers-by; it was called Dong Phaya Fai, Infernal Jungle. The Second King to HM Rama V renamed the site to a more auspicious appellation of Dong Phaya Yen, Cool Jungle.

Around 1922 a small settlement was built with cultivated land by people migrated from Nakhon Nayok. Its remoteness attracted and became a refuge for criminals and fugitives. Plad Jang, a retired Adjutant General of the Eastern Army, was assigned to bring the settlement into order. Succeed he did and was reassigned, Dong Phayayen

governor of the area, relocated the settlement 30 km into plains, and much later, at 75, died of malaria. For his bravery and benevolence to the villagers a shrine was erected and named the Father of Khao Yai. In 1959 the then Prime Minister Marshal Sarit Thanarat coordinated the ministries of Agriculture and the Interior to establish it as Khao Yai National Park on September 18, 1962. A major role in its establishment was received by Boonsong Lekakul, one of the 20th century’s most famous conservationists in Thailand. In 1984 the park was made an ASEAN Heritage Park, and on July 14, 2005 the park together with other parks in the Dong Phaya Yen Mountains was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site under the name Dong Phaya Yen-Khao Yai Forest Complex.

Sporty Phuket : Ride on waves

When people think of surfing in Asia, they think of Bali. But the arrival of the monsoon winds in Phuket means the east coast of the island now also boasts big waves. Decha Sithidej, 34, a surfing instructor of Andaman Sea Surf (from B2,800/3 hours, www. andamanseasurf.com) on Patong Beach, explains that from April to mid-December Phuket becomes a tem¬porary surfers’ paradise, with waves reaching as high as eight feet on some beaches. “Patong Beach is the most popular because it’s easy to access,” says Decha “but advanced surfers find Kalim Beach, next to Patong, and Nai Yang Beach, near the airport, more fun and challenging.” And if you’re a skeptical novice, Decha claims that anyone who can swim can surf, and his students range from six-year-olds to forty-somethings.

Sporty Phuket

The growing popularity of surfing in Phuket is clear, not only in the growing number of surfing schools and shops, but also in the appearance of a new competition last year. The Quicksilver Phuket Surf Series (www.thailandsurfseries.com) was spread out over three beaches and attracted participants from several countries. This year’s event is penciled in for around August or September, so be prepared.

Sporty Phuket

Sporty Phuket : Sight Seaing

When waves are high, it is not a very comfortable boat ride from Phuket to Phi Phi for a spot of snor-keling. Koh Racha, which is located much closer to the main island, is therefore a popular destination during the rainy season. It takes about 40 minutes by speedboat from Phuket’s Chalong Pier to reach its powdery white sands, aqua blue waters and teeming corals. One of the most popular dive oper-ators, Raya Oceanic Diver (076-384-326, www.ray¬aoceanicdiver.com), organizes both snorkeling and dive trips. If you always wanted to give scuba div¬ing a try, they have a Discover Scuba Diving (B4,500/1 day) course which gives you a real chance to see if you like hanging out in the under¬water world. We’ll be honest: the state of the coral is a little depressing with much of it decaying or already destroyed as a result of global warming but there are still lots of fish to see and visibility is great. A daytrip to snorkel and swim around the island costs around B1,800 but a special rate of B1,200 for two is available for Nok Air’s Nok Fan Club members (see Essentials).

Sporty Phuket : Tough Athletics

For those who really want to test their athleticism (or are just downright crazy) Phuket is also famous for two grueling events: The Laguna Phuket Inter-national Marathon (www.phuketmarathon) and the Laguna Phuket International Triathlon. This year’s marathon took place in June and attracted thousands of runners from around the globe. See Almost Famous for our interview with Chakrit Boonkong the overall winner of this year’s event and get in training now for next year’s race.

Sporty Phuket

Even more demanding is the triathlon (www. lagunaphukettriathlon.com), scheduled to take place on Nov 28. It’s been running since 1994 and is now so popular that this year’s event is already booked up with thousands of competitors wanting to swim 1.8km, cycle 55km and run 12km. So if you’re applying now, you have a choice between getting on the waiting list or joining the 6km Fun Run instead.

Perfect destinations for leisurely three-day weekends that will recharge your batteries without breaking the bank.

THE KINGDOM OF THAILAND

Sukhothai

The former capital, declared a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site in 1991, offers a wealth of old temples, a laid-back style of life and the famous Sukhothai noodles. There are 11 trains a day making the six-hour journey from Bangkok to Phitsanulok Station (B964/B1,164 for first class upper/lower bunks, B449 for air-coned sprinter). Only 59km away from Sukhothai, the station is only a quick bus ride away from your final destination.

HATYAI

Kimyong Market

Going to Hat Yai to get a taste of some Southern flair is also a popular route (B1,394/ B1,594 for first class). The famous Vegetarian Festival at the end of Sep/beginning Oct draws a fair share of onlookers and participants. The sprinter train leaving from Bangkok gets you there fastest, leaving at 10:30pm and arriving at 12:30am the next day. At B675 for second class, you get seats that can lean back.

Kimyong Market

With its lush natural surroundings and cool mountain air, Chiang Mai boasts more than enough sights and activities to keep all sorts of travelers occupied. There are six trains departing daily from Hua Lamphong, with the express overnighter leaving at 6pm and arriving at 7:15am the next morning. If you want to travel in relative comfort go for the first class sleeper (B1,253/B1,453 upper/lower bunks). The second class sleeper is also available at B791 for upper and B881 for lower bunks. There’s also a hosted four-day trip featuring visits to attractions like Doi Inthanont, Doi Suthep and the Royal Project site at Mae Rim for B7,000.
