In the past, the foreigners called Bangkok as the East Venice because there were many canals here. The main transportation was in the river. People always rowed the boat to hear and see each other. The road was quite small and narrow. There was few cars on the street. Another way to travel was by streaming train which occurred the reign of King Rama V, but today is too far different from the past. Today all the roads in Bangkok are full of cars and motorcycles. They are not only on the streets, but also the high way as well. The streaming train has already out of date. The Bangkokians prefer to sky train which is faster and cheaper than getting on the taxi. If you want to see the city, you can travel by bus and tricylemotor or Tuk-tuk. The bus is the cheapest way to choose, but you have to face with dense and sweat on it. The travelers usually get on the Tuk-tuk because it is special. You cannot find tuk-tuk anywhere in the world except Thailand. Today we have 2 main airport in Bangkok. The first one is Don Muang airport the old internation airport which now become the domestic airport, and the other one is Suwannabhoom airport, the biggest airport of Thailand, which is the present international airport. In the part of river and canals, we hardly ever used them to travel at this moment. We just use it for transport from the old Bangkok to the new Bangkok. Most of canals are polluted by wastes, so people don’t like to live near the river as the old day. In addition, they concern of the flood which will happen nearly every single year.
This city of angels is rich of history and full of attractive places to visit. Siam is the most popular shopping center in Thailand. There are many department stores there. Siam Paragon is the biggest super luxury shopping mall of South East Asia. You can buy everything you want at Paragon. The tourists often visit Naraya shop here because the products of Naraya is pretty good and it is not too hard to afford. People would like to buy fancy cloth bags as the souvenirs especially for Chinese and Japanese tourists. If you want to buy the high-end products, Paragon also deserves your demand as well.
