One day trips in Pattaya

Pattaya is never too for away from Bangkok so we left at a leisurely time way into eight o’clock. And it was a predetermined decision of mine to make the Mini Siam Pattaya City my first stop of the day. For only 120 Baht per person (Thai rate, though), this is where you can hop about Thailand’s and the world’s landmarks in their miniaturized form, learn what you need to know about their significance and, of course, take lots and lots of photographs! The Thai Zone has the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, the Democracy Monument, the Bridge of the River Kwai, for example. I could spot Korean tourists in large number, as well as Korean signage around the place and a Korean restaurant to complete the scene.

Stepping away from the outdoor heat of our first destination, we found refuge in the air conditioned comfort of inside of Royal Garden Plaza. This is where you can get up close and personal with (the wax figures of) the world’s most celebrated individuals like Eddy Murphy, Andy Lau, David Beckham and his fabulous wife plus other Thai and international artists and a few world leaders. I was most impressed by the Batman and Friends room and how the different zones are laid out and presented in general.

The afternoon was spent at a short distance further out from Ambassador City Jomtien. This attraction is a religious intervention in a manner of speaking. When he was the abbot of Wat Bowonniwet Vihara, the current supreme patriarch has come to know of this mountain in its state of rapid destruction from mining. He was determined to preserve the natural elegance of this mountain and came up with the idea to engrave an image of the Lord Buddha on the cliff of Khoo Chee Chan. The resulting low emboss image measures a majestic 130 meters from top to bottom.

Pattaya Beach

Impossible it was not to cap the day with gentle ocean breezes… and local delicacy before returning home. The Angsila Fish Market was absolutely not crowded by any standard years ago. You can either buy fresh items home or have it cooked there at a very reasonable price. The market was especially packed the evening of our visit. With increased awareness among vendors and tourists, the market has expanded significantly. Gone was the relative calm of the bygone days. But in any case, we did have delightful seafood and the spicy dipping sauce to match, all against the back drop of the setting sun of a day well spent.

Travel To Chumphon

Chumphon has never been a top tourist destination.Travel to Chumphon, Most never take the exit off the 222 km of highway (Petcha kasem Road) running through it from North to South. What have those on the fast-lane been missing? Numerous tranquil beaches with white powdery sands and clear waters. Chumphon is six hours away, and getting to said beaches is often tricky because many are surrounded by private property. But Arunothai Beach, in Pak Tako, is easily accessible and also offers a tranquil fishing village and smart eco-tourism options.

Get to know the locals

Pak Tako subdistrict is very small. If you can recall Arthit Asarat’s award-winning film Wonderful Town, this is even smaller you can easily walk down its two parallel rows of wooden shophouses on Ratpiboon Road in fifteen minutes. Get there early in the morning (9am), when locals are busying themselves with the night’s catch. Surely it’s about time you learn how to gut a squid yourself? This is a real fishing village, though, and it’s not on hipsters’ maps, so don’t expect a cute coffee shop for a pick-me-up.

Arunothai Beach is 6km-long. The sand might not be as powdery as Samed’s Sal Kaew or Samui’s Chaweng but the only people here are locals. As the name implies, Arunothai is at its most beautiful in the morning, when the sun rises over the horizon.

Bike Around town

The municipal office encourages visitors to produce less carbon. Resort all have bicycles available to check out nearby sites (most about two-hour rides roundtrip).

Start your itinerary around 4pm when the heat is starting to drop and head to Pak Tako Mangrove Reserve, located in the Prince of Chumphon Fishery College. The mangrove reserve project was started a few years ago to preserve the local environment as well as exhibiting local flora and fauna for the next generation. Though not yet 1000/o complete, a long wooden walkway leads you into the forest and through blocks where different kinds of animals are shown in captivity. The whole trip is 5 km roundtrip and takes around an hour or more.

GETTING THERE

Car: Arunothai Beach is 538km from Bangkok. Use Rama 2 Road (the same road you use to get to Hua Hin) to reach Petchakasem Road. Then turn left onto Road No. 4096 in Chumphon and continue for around nine kilometers to find the beach.

Plane: Can’t face a six hour drive? Fly. Get Nok Air (from B3,494 roundtrip; 1318, www.nokair.com), Air Asia (from B2,580 roundtrip; 02-515-9999, www. airasia.com) or THAI Airways (from B5,760 roundtrip; 1566, www. thaiairways.com) to Surat Thani and rent a car at the airport. Or fly Solar Air (B2,900 one way; 02-535-2455/-6, www.solarair.co.th) to Chumphon. From both airports it’s another one-hour drive on the Petchakasem Road so you’ll need a car anyway.

WHERE TO STAY

Accommodation in Chumphon town and along the 200 kilometer coast ranges from hotels and resorts to guesthouses and home stays.

If you are looking for luxury resort on the beach in Chumphon Province. Discover for yourself the experience Tusita Resort & Spa Chumphorn. Visit Hotels in Chumphon Here !

Holiday Travel To Rayong

Mention Rayong and most people think of fruit farms, Ma Tha Put Industrial estate and parties on Samed. But they would be missing out on a province that is a foodie’s paradise with its hectic fish markets, traditional treats and delicious seafood restaurants.

Rayong Cook

Rayong is home to Thailand’s biggest fishing port and, as the lines of squid boats that speck the Gulf every night testify, seafood is still a big business. If you want to get hold of the catch of the day then your best bet is to eschew the industrial-sized operation at Rayong in favor of the smaller more home¬spun market at Ban Phe. Turn right once you hit the seafront road and head away from the piers taking the party people to Samed. As the road narrows and narrows you’ll pass an increasing number of quaint looking old sho¬phouses. Park up at the end of the street and then wander back through the many stalls sporting all manner of marine life half-buried under crushed ice. For as little as B120 you can pick up a kilo of squid or hoy kang fresh that day, or for a couple of hundred a whole sea bass or mackerel. The best bit is this market gives you the tools to find the near¬est beach and cook it yourself, selling large charcoal burners for just B80 and the charcoal to put in it for an extra B20. If looking at all this seafood gets you hungry then grab a stop gap snack like deep fried soft shell crab or chewy goong thod for just B20 a tray.

Rayong Eat

If the idea of cooking your own dinner freaks you out, then simply jump in your car and head East from Ban Phe along the main beach road (H3164). After a pleasant twenty-minute drive along mile after mile of pretty empty (if a little dirty) beaches flanked by trees, you’ll reach the beach at Laem Mae Phim. While the beach itself can’t match the golden sands of Samed, across the water its stretch of seafood restaurants that you’d be at pains to match anywhere in Thailand for quality and price. A long term favorite and our personal pick would have to be JoJo Restaurant (038-638-240. Open daily 10:30am-9pm) at the far end of the strip. While the decor is strictly old school, the impressive menu of super fresh fish dishes and delicious crab choices mean it’s always popular and you could have to wait up to thirty minutes for a table. if you’re killing time and want some liquid refreshment or just want to stay up that little bit later, then pop in next door to Phish Cafe (085-3187-366. Open daily 4pm-2am). The decor is more beach chic than anything else in the area thanks to the hip lamps and heavy driftwood furniture. Kick back and let the friendly staff serve up some strong pitchers of cocktails (starting from B160/glass) while you enjoy the sounds of the waves out on the open deck.

Rayong Chill

if seafood and the beach really don’t do it for you, then you can always take a step back in time with a journey to Rayong City’s old Chinese quarter which is focused around Yomjindra Road. A quiet and sleepy street of pretty little wooden and stone shophouses during the day, it turns into a bustling little thoroughfare at night with an array of bric-a-brac stores, museums and restaurants to tempt the wallet and the taste buds. Most though, come to chill at the ultra cute cafes and enjoy a traditional tea or soda with favorites including the authentically cluttered Raan Choie (08-6337-7963) with its impres¬sive selection of clocks, or the equally retro but more 60s inspired decor of the fashionable Kafee 122 (081-697-5666. Open daily 1-8pm). Those searching for a weird bargain should check out Jay Yo, a grotto-like store filled with odd antiques, while noodle lovers must pay a visit to the arty Baan Saphanmai (081-429-0920), where you can enjoy a mean gway tiew amid its Ameri¬cana before checking out the cute frames from John’s Frame Shop opposite or the nice little art gallery upstairs. Just round the corner, down a side alley, is Khun Suparb’s Thai Dessert stall (08-5142-6284) with its countless vats of yummy looking treats from tubtim to sweet sticky rice. If that doesn’t cure your sweet tooth then further up the street, you’ll also find a sister branch in Khun Turn’s Thai desserts (08-5142-6284).

GETTING THERE

By car. If you are heading to Rayong City take Highway 7 for around an hour coming off at Highway no 36 before Pattaya. It should take around two hours. If you are heading to Mae Laem Phe, take Highway 7 as above, but you can always take the cross country route on H344. It will be around a 2.5-3 hour journey.

By bus. Air-conditioned buses leave every half an hour to Rayong from Ekkamai Southern Bus Terminal. Tickets cost B126 and the journey takes around threee hours.

WHERE TO STAY

Rayong Accommodation

Rayong, Thailand

Both coastal Rayong and the islands offshore, including Koh Samet, have a variety of accommodation for visitors including luxury hotels, guesthouses, and home stays. Booking hotels in Rayong Here !

The Sea of Trang

Despite the fact that it enjoys somewhat lesser popularity amongst international tourists compared to provinces such as Phuket, Phangnga, or Krabi; Trang can say that it boasts its own appeal, with a friendly atmosphere not likely found anywhere else.

Good Morning Trang!

Although flights now operate between Trang and Bangkok many visitors still prefer a train that will arrive early in the morning, which is the best time to witness the idyllic way of life of the lo¬cals, who begin their day early, a habit derived from the many decades of rubber plantation life. This requires early work starting from 4am to 5am, when workers will tap the rubber and by 6am, they will gather at a coffee house for some stimulation from a cup of brewed coffee with grilled pork and dim sum as well as verbal exchange. It’s notable that the locals seem to be interested in politics and take pride in the fact that a former prime minister of Thailand actually hails from the province.

The Sea of Trang

Trang’s geographical feature is dominated by rolling hills, which is particularly obvious during a road trip when you see the scenery of rubber trees plantation in which the rubbers are planted along the low and high land. From the top of a hill prior to Sikao district, you can see Meng mountain that stands majestically in the distance. It is regarded as a landmark of Trang thanks to its proximity to Pak Meng dock, which is the boarding centre for those who come to experi¬ence the sea of Trang. The favourite programme of the tourists is a boat trip that allows you to enjoy the scenery of all the small isles of the sea, each boasting its own feature for those wishing to explore and discover. A good example is Ko Muk, on which Morakot cave is hidden amid the circling mountains.

To experience the beauty of this cave, you need to take the boat to the entrance of the cave then put on a life vest, jump into the water and float one by one into the tiny, pitch-black cave hole before rediscovering the light again on a small beach that embraces the emerald green water. This is a lagoon originated from the sinking of a limestone mountain a long time ago. The only entrance to this lagoon is through that hollow of the cave.

The one-day boat trip will also offer a diving programme at the neigh-bouring Ko Cheuk and Ko Ma. The sea of both islands boasts a diversity of corals, clown fish, and sea anemone. Ko Mai and Ko Kradan (where underwater wedding ceremony took place), however, offer a white beach

for a relaxing stroll as well as accommodations of reason able price. As for those who wish to observe the way of life of Muslim fishermen and experience an ecological trip such as seeing dugongs swimming may have to go as far as Ko Libong. Fans of birds-watching, however, will have a chance to observe mangrove forest birds at Laem Tase. Those who wish to forego of the sea trip have the option of staying at Pak Meng beach with its many resorts where you can lie down to enjoy the sea view and the sunset. One interesting activity for the following morning is a road trip along the beach road, which stretches further away to Chang Lang beach and Yao beach whereas some places such as Yong Ling beach require an extra effort since the journey there involves a short trekking al¬ternating with getting up small hills to arrive at a cave, which leads to a small and secluded beach. At the end of this beach road, there’s a recommended activity for everyone, which is canoeing along Klong Jarakhe Khao to observe the nature of mangroves forests.

Additional trips, The Sea Of Trang

Drive to Hat Samran district and stop at Thung Khai Botanical Garden or drive to Huay Yod district to visit Le Khao Kob cave to see the splendid stalagmites and stalactites. The most thrilling part comes when you enter the cave lying flat on the boat which will gradually glide into the cave.

Chao Phraya River Gateway To The World

The Chao Phraya River Gateway To The World

The Chao Phraya River was once Thailand’s gateway to the world. Diplomatic relations, trade and commerce during the Ayutthaya period flourished here thanks to the grand river. Serving as the nation’s lifeline. the Chao Phraya River has nourished the kingdom of Rattanakosin and transformed it into present day Bangkok. Traces of history are therefore abundant on both sides of the river. Dating back 200 years, during the early period of the Rattanakosin era, the riverbanks on both sides were cluttered with cargo and foreign envoys’ ships. The pier at the Rama I Memorial Bridge served not only as the main platform for overseas traders who sailed to Rattanakosin Vichayuth Fort located in the west, but also as a location used for guarding the city from potential enemies from the sea and as a customs checkpoint.

Santa Cruz Church Located not far from the Rama I Memorial Bridge, this neo-classic Catholic Church is a frequented destination for the faithful from the nearby community. People come here for both morning and evening masses. Many have descended from Portuguese ancestors who traveled to Siam during the Ayutthaya period as tradesmen, mercenaries or courtiers who worked for the royal court. The fall of Ayutthaya in 1767 brought about drastic changes and left the whole nation in a state of disarray. Thais and foreigners alike fled for their lives. About 400 Catholic priests and Portuguese people relocated to the Kudee Cheen (Chinese shrine) community in Bangkok. In 1769. When King Taksin fought the Burmese troops and won back independence, he bestowed the land of Baan Kudee Cheen to the Portuguese for the construction of the Catholic Church.

Chinese Kudee

Guan Un Keng Chinese Shrine Not far from Santa Cruz Church is a Chinese shrine called Guan Un Keng where Hokkien and Tae Chiew Chinese settled prior to the period of King Taksin’s reign. The presence of the ancient spirit is prominent throughout the temple. It is marked on the ceramic sheets adorning the dragon atop the shrine’s roof, as well as the wooden crosspiece carved with the pattern of ancient Chinese warriors. The wall with the drawing of Chinese people in various postures is exquisite and well maintained despite its age of over 300 years. Thai Buddhist Temple in the Chinese milieu: Wat Kalayanamitr The temple was built in 1825 and is located at the end of the riverbank. The statue of Phra Putta Trirattanayok (Abbot To) is enshrined inside the temple where you can also find the chapel. Wat Kalayanamitr , similar to Wat Phananchoeng. which seats the principal Buddha image located in the heart of the community of Ayutthaya. was considered to be one of the most important temples built under the royal command of King Rama III. Wat Kalayanamitr is the spiritual center of Thai people and Thais with Chinese origin. It is believed that whoever has a chance to pay respect to Luang Per To. also known as “Sam Po Kong” by the Chinese. will remain unharmed while traveling and make many good friends. Muslim House of Faith: Bang Luang Mosque

From Wat Kalayanamitr. we walked through the other side of the gate on Arun Amarin Road. The little alley in Soi Arun Amarin 7 led us to Bang Luang mosque unique as the one and only mosque built in the style of a Buddhist temple.

During the second fall of the Ayutthaya kingdom, a number of Muslim residents fled from Burmese invaders and lived on rafts in the Bangkok Yai canal. They gathered together to build a mosque. which due to its red color, was later known as “Kudee Dang” [red shrine]. When the place became run down, a new mosque was erected to replace the previous one. This new mosque may have the resemblance of a Thai Buddhist temple: however, each and every part of the building truly reflects Islam. The 30 pillars around the mosque represent 30 commandments of the Quran. Twelve windows in the prayer room plus one door represent the thirteen rules followed when performing ‘Salat’ (an act of praying and worshipping the Allah). There is also a preaching platform built in the form of a Thai pavilion with triple spires on which a wood carving of Arabic words is subtly attached.

The exotic sight of Bang Luang mosque set amidst a diverse cultural landscape suggests that maybe the Chinese artisans wanted to show us that different lifestyles Thai. Chinese, Muslim and westerners — can co-exist. Despite the differences, the three religions generate a unique. beautiful blend of diversity.

Mae Salong Tea Tasting

The tea crops of Doi Mae Salong In Chiang Rai are held in high regard by the general public. The quality is achieved by the geography and their specific elevation, perhaps. A large 4WD vehicle was standing by to collect me after my afternoon flight touched down. “Is this all?,” asked the male staff from Choke Jumroen Tea Crop with a hint of surprise. I replied with a nod, as extensive travelling has taught me well how to pack.

Doi Mae Salong

A little over an hour later, we slipped Into Mae Salong Villa so I could put my things In the decent sized bungalow. The weather was probably too cold for Bangkokians but certainly not so cold it pained. I took some snaps at the serene surrounding almost immediately before I was called to dinner about an hour later.Served on the entire table was an overwhelming array of Yunnan Chinese delicacies including braised pork knuckle and buns, mushroom in soy sauce and double-boiled black chicken to name a few. And they proved to taste as good as they look. The pork knuckle was especially pleasing. They braised it long enough it was tenderized while the flavor was in no way over the top. Perfect when had with the buns.

I slept a little late into the next morning because of the incredibly fine weather. But It took me only under twenty minutes to get to the richly green tea crops. I casually proceeded along the aisles where some workers were already picking the tea leaves. “Go for the sprouts with three leaves. Those are the best,” advised a pro. And so my work for the day began.

Wu Long tea is mostly grown with branches from Taiwan. It is considered an excellence in the world of teas and enjoys immense popularity among tea drinkers. Wu Long tea must be grown in colder climate at an elevation of 1,200 meters above sea level or higher. And contrary to popular belief, drinking tea does not cause constipation. In fact regular consumption of properly infused tea helps with bowel movements as tea leaves contain certain laxative substances. Having one cup of tea in the afternoon helps improve the balance of your body systems. My pleasure time ended shortly. The pleasure was not derived from the food or drinks but from the visit to such a calm location with purified air and genuine hospitality. If you, too, are searching for something along this line set a fews day aside and come for some think that will be best

Road Trip Phuket-Phang Nga

Whenever we travel to the south, Phuket is always our point of departure. Phuket is a convenient choice because of the frequency of flights operated daily and the many choices of rental cars at your disposal, even during the peak season.

We planned to visit Phang Nga, Phuket’s neigh-boring province connected by the Sarasin Bridge. The bridge stretches over the narrow channel be-tween the mainland on Phang Nga and Phuket Island. There is so much available to explore in these two provinces. Some activities require that one be a little bit adventurous, but that’s nothing to worry about. With Dazzle as your trip advisor, nothing can go wrong because we provide specific information regarding each place. If you have a GPS navigator, simply key in your destination as described at the end of our column and you will definitely reach your target without difficulty. If you avail yourself of the car rental service from AVIS, you may want to ask for the GPS option as the charge is only 100 baht per day.

We started off with a nice lunch in Phuket as we could not get enough of the mouthwatering local dishes. There were many tourist attractions we wanted to revisit; some were places we missed out on the last time we came through this lovely province. The greenery of the roadside scenery against the clear blue skies has a very relaxing and appealing charm. We headed to the north and finally arrived at Sasrasin Bridge, the gateway to Phang Nga. Rubber trees dotted the edge of the road and, unlike Phuket, Phang Nga is graced with many peculiar-shaped mountains. We stopped by at a famous khanom jeen shop house located in front of Jor Po Shrine. After a hot and spicy dish

of khanom jeen, we stopped by Chai Kai Coffeeshop and downed some super sweet and delicious coffee [sugared coffee without milk] to cool our tongues. We waited till late afternoon when the sun was not so blistering hot to board a boat headed towards Ao Phang Nga. Late afternoon is a good time to go as there aren’t hordes of tourists to deal with. The golden sunlight spreading over the hundreds of uniquely-formed islets makes one feel as if they are in some sort of enchanted land. We watched the sun go down and melt into the middle of the sea.

Khao Lak was our next stop. The place is more well known to tourists than Phang Nga city itself. The night time in Khao Lak is vibrant and bustling with many open shops and stalls offering a variety of treasures. The real charm of Khao Lak can be experienced when you find a good spot to rest and indulge in the beauty of the sea. The beach at Khao Lak is many kilometers long and there are serveral luxury resorts to choose from. The Sarojin is one of the best places to chill and take in the sea breeze.

If you wish to see an even more beautiful sea the most beautiful one in Thailand, you must make a visit to Moo Ko Similan Thailand’s best scuba-diving spot. Trip packages are available at many tour agencies in Khao Lak. If snorkeling is more to your liking, Moo Ko Surin is your destination. To reach this treasure of a place you must drive a bit further to the Kura Buri Pier, the door to Moo Ko Surin which lies very near to Ranong province. Getting there is an enjoyable experience as well thanks to the scenic roadside views. On the way to and back from Kura Burl Pier, you might want to stop by Tagua Pa, a historical city and grab a few boxes of Tao So the famous signature snack of the district.

In the last day before we headed back to Phuket Airport, we visited Tai Muang Beach National Park ,a site that allowed us to take in the nature in full view. The crowd-less beach and the road along the beach with pleasant forest views makes this destination definitely someplace worth spending some time. This place is a great spot to make some memories before finishing off the trip and returning to Bangkok.
