The Ratchada Market Cheap Night Out
A number of years ago, Ratchada Night Market became a weekly gathering point for vintage vehicle enthusiasts (from bicycles to VW vans). When the Suan Lum Night Bazaar got kicked out from its Lumpini spot and took over Ratchada’s plot, we thought we’d lost our two fave night markets at once. It turns out, though, Rachada simply moved down a block and attracts the same colorful, grungy vehicles—and characters—as before.
New and secondhand parts for vintage vehicles and hipster bicycles are sold throughout. But the market is otherwise split into two sections. The fashion is mostly secondhand, either properly displayed on hangers or piled up on plastic mats. With boots we’d actually wear going for B20, you should be able to complete your dek naew look with a bit of cash leftover for decoration.
The home decor items are mostly retro: old neon signs, clocks, toys, paintings and furniture. Feeling creative? We found a very cool B800 Japanese typewriter and a B65 handmade notebook from local brand Where Is Holiday. And if inspiration is lacking, a few cocktails at one of the VW minivans converted into cute bars should fix that.
